Hobbies
Do people have the same hobbies today that I had? Do they knit, crochet, sew or quilt? Do they read, play cards, play board games and work puzzles? I understand progress but if they are glued to the tv or computer will these other hobbies die out?
My dad made a whole fleet of ships in perfect detail and this was all done by hand without a kit. My mother made her own noodles and ice cream.
There is a unique kind of satisfaction that comes to things you make yourself, even to something temporary like a puzzle. I am a getting fanatical about puzzles again. [It's nice to be retired!]
So lately the things I like to do in my spare time are the puzzles, knitting and reading. But am I missing out on what my grandkids like to do in their spare time which is the computer and video games? Are these "hobbies" as fulfilling as mine? What is so fascinating abou these games? Please somebody tell me!

I find it hard to have time for hobbies but if I did have time it would be sports. Your hobbies are great. Even though I don't let my children play video games often. They are still a lot of fun. Some of them could love the games because of the challenge of beating the game with the highest score. But other times the children and parents love the games because of the colors and affects the games have. I do love the game but, I do push my children out the door so they can have play time in.
Hi,
i enjoyed your post..your reflections on how we can go through a day with less frenzy less tv....
I look for others who enjoy simple things - especially with kids.
I am a nanny and a senior - my blog is www.whistlemarsh.com/nannyjournal/
I just sent my application in to Nanny Poppinz and stumbled across this blog! I love reading blogs!
Speaking of hobbies, this is one of them. I also make my own candles and a side business and hobby (www.beyondmagical.com). I read constantly, and I love anything crafty!
I also play video games, lol, so I think I can give you some perspective... to me, its like reading but being able to make my own story. I play roleplaying games, and it is a serious escape from real life and can be relaxing.
You're really not missing much, though. I think reading is more fun!

I'm 24 and I sew, knitt, spend qualiy time with my husband. We just finished a 4 day hike in the smokeys! I think children are very much involved with technology because they're exposed to it everywhere! My 14 month old nephew can look through& play videos on his mothers i-phone...don't get me wrong he still loves being outside, playing in the dirt and such..but just goes to show the early exposure! Have your grandchildren out to your house on the lake for a scavenger hunt or have them help you build a tree house! What kid doesn't love a good tree house? Keep up the knitting!
